Originally developed as part of Buddhist rituals, Sumi-e is a style of black-and-white painting using ink made from charcoal. Guests learn to express themselves in a pure, unadorned form. Sumi-e was greatly influenced by the philosophy of Zen. Zen transformed it into a spiritual discipline focused on calmness, simplicity, and self-growth. Guests can find their own zen through our Sumi-e classes which embody the essence of Zen teachings, the harmony between people and nature. All guests will start from the basics of ink-wash painting, such as how to hold a brush. All materials such as ink, brushes, calligraphy paper, etc. will be provided for the guests. The goal is to paint an object or scene with just ink and water in the fewest possible strokes.

Take a guided horseback riding tour on our 300+ acres of private mountain trails lead by an experienced guide. After signing up and meeting the horses, we will show you the skills you need to ride through our trails. You will be accompanied by an experienced trail guide the entire time. This is a beginner friendly ride, most of the ride is walking, we go at the pace of the least experienced rider in the group. If you would like to do some more trotting, don't want to ride in a group, or are experienced, we recommend booking a private ride. The ride itself is 1 hour long and is done in a western saddle. A brief introduction of the residents and tour of the sanctuary is followed by setting up materials and getting creative. All 3 locations are completely hidden, no obvious bars in between. Some through vault doors with a required code and some that are down an alleys with multiple doors where you would need to know which door to open. Some even have all the drinks still in tea cups in case the police would raid them back in 1920's and was featured in the TV show Boardwalk Empire for its historical accurate decor and atmosphere. We provide historical facts by history teachers with educational and tour guide licenses. Our facts are solely from cross referenced academic sources. Everything is better with goats. (It's true.) Designed specifically for the people who love being active in the outdoors and also love animals! Come hike with us and our herd of rescued goats through the beauty of the forest tucked into a remote part of the Catskills, just 2 hours from Manhattan. Our goats feel safest with humans and so they magically follow and walk with us through the woods on seasoned trails as we become part of their herd. No leashes needed! We will meander over beautiful streams, enjoying the wildlife and scenery while we forage for some of the goat's favorite treats. We stop midway for a brief rest and water break before finishing our loop, hiking approximately 2.5 miles and taking about 1.5 - 2 hrs, depending on our pace. For those who are interested, your guide can tell you the rescue story of each goat, share their quirks and different personalities and answer any question you might have about goats in general (with a few terrible goat jokes/puns thrown in for good measure.)
