Masai Experience, Beading, Culture, Conversation, BBQ lunch
This unique cultural experience is an easy day trip from Nairobi (also near many holiday homes on Champagne Ridge). Located only 1 hour from Karen. Learn to bead jewellery, prepare a gourd/calabash (traditional natural storage container) and enjoy an authentic homecooked Masai BBQ lunch. You will spend a few hours while we reveal what it is like to live as a Masai in the heart of my homeland. My family and community welcome you warmly while we share stories, a traditional lunch cooked over an open fire (choice of goat or beef), teach you to bead and prepare a traditional gourd as well as other activities. We open our hearts and home to you. As a Masai woman and leader in my community I love to share my culture and experiences with you. The experience begins with a welcome traditional chai- tea while the meat is prepared and we show how we light the fire, the way our ancestors have for many years. While the lunch cooks the time-honored way we learn to bead, prepare our valuable gourds and see how we live keeping our livestock and traditions alive. Together we enjoy BBQ lunch with ugali (maize flour), kachumbari (chunky tomato salad) , medicinal soup and our beloved Masai favored delicacies (optional). We can offer vegetarian options upon request (even though Masai are not vegetarians!). For groups 6 and above we can offer an optional humane goat slaughter.
