Lokasi Anda

Culion, MIMAROPA, Filipina

Culion is one of the four major islands in Calamian Group (the other three being Coron, Busuanga/Coron, and Linapacan). The Municipality of Culion has a land area of 500 square kilometres which includes the 41 surrounding islands and measures a total of 1,191 square kilometres including its territorial water. Its largest island, Culion Island, has an area of 389 square kilometres.

It’s been over a century since the first batch of patients arrived in Culion. The island has been transformed along with the lives of the people. The disease has been cured. The residents have moved on. The island has been opened again. Culion was shut from the rest of the world for so long. Its forests and beaches are left almost untouched. Its streets tell a unique history. Its people — many are descendants of patients — speak of tales of heartbreak and suffering, of love and loss, of endings and new beginnings.
And as Culion rises as a new tourist destination, these tales await those fortunate enough to set foot on it. And even luckier are those who will come back again and again for Culion may no longer be an island of no return or a paradise lost but a sanctuary to travelers, a home to locals, and a monument to the fragile yet undying drive of the human spirit.

Culion is steeped in fascinating history, from indigenous tribes and leading Spanish settlement to its selection as a segregation colony for lepers. The town has many historic buildings which are listed on the UNESCO Memory of the World register. There are remnants of two Spanish forts, one of which became the foundation for the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the other lost to the jungle. Take a leisurely walk around the town, visit the museum and archives or try and find the Spanish fort in San Pedro.

Island hopping trips are a great way to experience Culion and its many islands, the mangrove forests, reefs, bays and beaches. Hire the MV Nudibranch and have lunch on a beautiful white sandy beach, go snorkelling or visit the lakes and lagoons on Coron Island.

Travelling round Culion Island can be challenging and is always a great adventure, most of the byways are tracks and pathways, hire motorbikes or the buggy and discover the rice fields, fishing villages and hidden beaches. We would recommend to take a guide to show you the way and keep safe.

Diving in the Philippines is considered amongst the best in the world. The wrecks in Coron Bay are world famous in the diving community but the reefs around Culion remain largely unexplored – we are working to set up our own dive shop but until then we can help arrange dive trips with friends and local operators.

If you want to stay relatively close but want to mix up lounging on the terrace, lazy lunches and snoozing in the hammock with a little exercise there are great mountain bike trails, hiking and kayaking or we can always take you fishing.

I was born in Culion and met my husband Simon whilst working in the kitchens at a local dive resort. I moved with him Singapore and we spent a few years working hard and having kids and dreaming of building a home. We now have 2 beautiful children and a lovely house by the sea. I love to cook and take great care of my guests, Simon is a keen diver and lover of nudibranchs, the diving here is exceptional.
