Welcome to Portas Caeli: a cozy, one bedroom, one bath apartment made to make you feel at home. Sitting just outside of Carbondale City limits, our guests enjoy the relaxing country setting only 5.3 miles from SIU, near downtown Carbondale, and close to the So. IL Wine Trail. Giant City Park is less than 5 miles down the road with its many beautiful hiking trails. Walk through our 20 acres, relax and watch deer graze on the fields. Sit under the gazebo and read a book.

One bedroom, one (tiny) bath apartment, with comfortable living space and kitchen built in a barn like building. Note that second bed is a sofa bed.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of a safe and beautiful property, while being minutes from town. Owners on premises. My mother lives in a mobile home nearby, so there is usually someone you can talk to if you wish. Walk around the two ponds and watch for deer--or simply look out one of the windows and you will likely catch a glimpse of them. Drink a glass of wine or cup of coffee while sitting in our little "gazebo", surrounded by flowers and looking out toward the pond. Watch birds at the feeders, and squirrels and other woodland creatures scamper about. At night, you will often hear the calls of coyotes, and if you're lucky, you may glimpse a red fox.

My husband and I are travel/history enthusiasts, and travel whenever we can, often with our grown children or with friends. Now the grandkids are getting old enough to become delightful travel companions as well. We know what it's like to enjoy a homelike environment when away from home and try to accommodate our guests in a way as to make them as comfortable as we can.
Going along with our love of travel and history, comes a desire to learn about other cultures. My husband in particular, enjoys trying to learn other languages. While we are both fluent in English and Spanish, he speaks a bit of many different languages.
In the time when we are not working or traveling, my husband relaxes by caring for the property and I write.
Our Christian faith drives who we are and our values of life. We love meeting people and enjoy sharing our little bit of Heaven with them.
