An ideal central base to explore Tasmania’s rugged west coast, and the perfect place for you and your special someone to relax after a day of hiking, biking or sightseeing. Or perhaps you'll love being at the cabin as much as we do, and not want to leave at all!

Whether it’s the deep soak bath, time spent around the fire pit, or relaxing on the daybed while taking in the mountain views, special memories are made here.

Full of craftsmanship, The Lazy Prospector is a celebration of yesteryear, with all the modern conveniences. Inside, beautifully restored 130-year-old barn wood features, restored Huon pine antique doors, and a rustic charm calm and soothe.

To ensure you have a chance to slow down (we're called the Lazy Prospector after all!), and help you recharge for your adventures on the west coast, we've done all we can to make your stay comfortable...

A plush queen size bed with luxurious linen; a sofa large enough for two adults to comfortably stretch out in front of the wood fire heater; a deep soak bath; a fire pit and private back verandah with views across to Mount Dundas. Rest assured; we have plenty of spaces to help you unwind.

And speaking of special memories, it's not unusual to be serenaded by local kookaburra's, or to see wallabies feeding near the cabin at dusk and dawn.

So if you have the inner callings for adventure, but love your creature comforts, The Lazy Prospector is for you! And after a day of exploring, and a couple of nights of deep sleep, we know you'll feel refreshed and ready to take on the world.

Lokasi Anda

Zeehan, Tasmania, Australia

The West Coast is as rugged, magnificent, and photogenic as it is soothing to the soul.

Zeehan, where The Lazy Prospector is located, has a rich and colourful history. Once known as The Silver City, in the early 1900s, it was home to 10,000 people and a bustling mining community. At the time, it was the third largest town in Tasmania.

Today, the faded glamour of these heady days is captured by the hauntingly beautiful grand buildings lining the Main Street, while a grittiness, remnant of its mining days, is evident throughout. At times it can feel like a ghost town – which is not surprising when you consider Tasmania's entire west coast has about 4,000 inhabitants in almost one million hectares!

Speaking of ghost towns, take the time to check whether your trip coincides with one of Tasmania’s Most Haunted Tours of the Gaiety Theatre. And to fully appreciate the history of the west coast, set aside half a day or more to explore the West Coast Heritage Centre located on the Main Street.

Beyond Zeehan, you can visit the nearby towns of Queenstown (30 mins drive), where you'll find the Westcoast Wilderness Railway along with the contemporary Q Bank Gallery; working mining town Rosebery (20 mins drive) home to the renown Montezuma Falls; picturesque Strahan (20 mins drive) with its unique fishing village; or Tullah (30 mins drive) with its breathtaking lakes.

If up for adventure, you can explore the some of the most wild and remote places on earth - Ocean Beach, Trial Harbour or Granville Harbour (20 -30 mins drive); or venture into the heart of the Tarkine Wilderness - take a drive out to Corrina (50 mins) and kayak down with the Pieman River through ancient rainforests. Even Cradle Mountain and Frenchmans Cap (both 90 mins drive) are close enough for day trips!

The choice is yours.
