Tempat
Caldon Cottage sleeps 10 people in five waterway-themed bedrooms (2 double, 3 twin), with 3 bedrooms on the ground floor. 2 of the bedrooms have en suite facilities.

There is a fully equipped kitchen and adjacent dining area which comfortably seats 10 people. The kitchen includes a large fridge/freezer, AGA Rangemaster cooker, microwave, Belfast sink, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, a full inventory of cooking equipment and local and vintage ceramics from The Potteries.

The large sitting room has a Mediterranean feel to it, with comfy seating for 10. The bifold doors provide open access out on to the garden during warmer months, while the log burner makes for a cosy time when it’s colder outside. Upstairs is a games room with smart TV, DVD player and further comfortable seating, and a well-stocked games cupboard for keeping guests entertained during the evenings.

The proximity of the canal and an unfenced stream mean that children should be supervised at all times when they are outside in the garden.

For families with very young children there is a travel cot and a high chair, and the games room features “Toddler Corner” with suitable toys. Up to 2 well behaved dogs are welcomed.

Lokasi Anda

Endon, England, Inggris Raya

On the edge of the Peak District, Endon makes an excellent base for exploring the hills and valleys of the national park. The market town of Leek is just 5 miles away, and it’s a half hour drive through beautiful countryside to get to Alton Towers, 17 miles away.

This is a great base if you are interested in exploring railways and canals, with the Caldon Canal on the doorstep and the Trent & Mersey Canal a few miles away. The Churnet Valley Railway and Rudyard Lake Steam Railway are both less than 5 miles away, and slightly further afield is the Foxfield Railway and the Apedale Valley Light Railway. Stoke-on-Trent is famous for its Potteries, and many of them have visitor centres, tea rooms and hands-on studios making for a great day out. There are various museums and visitor centres in the local area, and two National Trust properties nearby , Biddulph Grange and Little Moreton Hall, 20 mins and 25 mins away respectively.

There are several nice pubs very close to the cottage - the Travellers Rest (½ mile away) and the Rose and Crown (¾ mile) in the nearby village of Stanley, the Plough (½ mile away, Toby Carvery) is on the main road in Endon. There are also lots of pubs and restaurants in the market town of Leek a few miles away, and a canalside pub, the Holly Bush in the hamlet of Denford, on the way towards Leek or a 2 mile stroll along the canal towpath. Just 10 minutes walk away is The Endon Railway Tearoom, serving tea and coffee, cakes and filled Staffordshire Oatcakes (a local delicacy).

Stoke-on-Trent is famous for its many Potteries and many of these have museums, visitor centres and factory shops. The Potteries Museum in Hanley (Stoke on Trent’s town centre) gives an excellent overview of the industry, and the new Wedgwood Visitor Centre at Barlaston has won many awards.

Stone, famous for its connections with the Trent and Mersey canal that runs through it, is only half an hour’s drive away and has a farmers market on the 1st Saturday each month, and a Food and Drinks Festival on the first weekend in October.

Alton Towers Theme Park and Spa is only 30 minutes drive away. Ashbourne, Buxton and Macclesfield are all approximately half an hour’s drive away.

Leek is just 3 miles away and has all the traditional features of a market town including pubs and eating establishments. Leek is famous for its antique shops and has weekly markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays including a farmers market on the 3rd Saturday each month and Totally Locally markets on some Sundays. Leek has strong connections with the Arts and Crafts Movement and William Morris with All Saints church in Leek being of particular interest. The historic market town of Cheadle with its famous Pugin church has markets on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Not far from the Peak District, Endon makes an excellent base for exploring the National Park. The Manifold Valley makes a good walk along the route of the former Leek and Manifold Railway, now surfaced and good for walking and cycling. Cycle hire is available at both ends of it.

The village of Cheddleton is a 2 mile walk down the canal and has the interesting Cheddleton flint mill with its two water wheels, and the historic parish church of St Edward the Confessor dating back to the 13th century with stained glass windows by William Morris and Edward Burne Jones
There are two National Trust properties within half an hour’s drive (Biddulph Grange and Little Morton Hall) and several more within an hour’s drive (Kedleston Hall, Sudbury Hall and Museum of Childhood, Calke Abbey, Moseley Old Hall, Dunham Massey, Lyme Park and Quarry Bank Mill).
