Right on the doorstep, a few minutes walk from the caravan is the most easterly point in the UK -
Ness Point, also known as Lowestoft Ness, is the most easterly point of England, Great Britain, the United Kingdom and the British Isles. It is located in Lowestoft in the East Suffolk district of the county of Suffolk. The site is located to the north of the town centre, overlooking the North Sea, and has a direction marker, known as the Euroscope, marking locations in other countries and their distance from Ness Point. Located at Ness Point is the previous record holder for Britain's tallest wind turbine, nicknamed "Gulliver". It stands 126 metres tall, generating electricity for the National Grid.

It acts as a warning light for shipping passing along the east coast and is the most easterly lighthouse in the UK. The original lighthouses at Lowestoft, which were established in 1609, were the first lights to be built by Trinity House. They marked the southern approach to Yarmouth Roads which, in the seventeenth century, was a key roadstead and anchorage, in frequent use both by vessels engaged in the local herring trade and by colliers on the route from Newcastle to London. The current lighthouse was built in 1874 and stands 16 metres tall, 37 metres above sea level. The light, which has a range of 23 nautical miles, was automated in 1975.

Aldeburgh is a lovely town just a bit further down from Southwold. Has a lovely beach, good food and some historical interest. Well worth a day out

Great country pub with a large garden that overlooks the river Waveney. Good food and on a sunny day, it’s fabulous to sit outside and watch the boats go by. It can be entertaining as well, watching some of them trying to moor up by the pub !!

Lound Lakes is a 113 hectares nature reserve and series of reservoirs on the border between the English counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. It is 2 miles south-west of Gorleston-on-Sea, 5 miles north-west of Lowestoft and around 1.5 miles inland from the North Sea coast, in the parishes of Belton with Browston, Hopton-on-Sea and Lound. It is owned by Essex and Suffolk Water and managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust. The lakes were originally created as a result of peat digging in the medieval period. They consist of a number of reservoirs and feed into Fritton Decoy and then to the River Waveney to the west. They have a catchment area of 20 square kilometres. The catchment is primarily arable land and this leads to nitrate runoff into the lakes, creating issues for water supply and habitat management. Habitats in this site include open water, woodland, grassland, rush pasture and fen meadow. Over 140 bird species have been recorded there, including hobbies, geese, ducks, reed warblers, gadwalls and oystercatchers. Brown long-eared and noctule bats are also present. There is access from various points including Hall Road and Hobland Road.
