A nice tip is the harbour walk on 't eilandje in Antwerp. This old harbour district has been transformed into a trendy residential and entertainment area. Old sheds and warehouses were renovated and boulevards were laid out with little green spaces. The location alone is worth the effort, everywhere you walk you see water. The Red Star Line museum and the MAS, museum aan de stroom, are the two tourist attractions here. You can go free to the roof of the MAS, from where you have a spectacular view over the city and the port. Be sure to visit the Felix warehouse on the Godefriduskaai. This is a beautiful warehouse from the 19th century that served as a storage place for, among other things, coffee and grain. The picturesque inner street in the building connects two neighbourhoods. Meanwhile, it has become a cosy restaurant. If you cross Londenstraat, you arrive at the Kattendijkdok. You can walk along the water's edge to the Droogdokkenpark, where a beautiful park has been laid out. Deck chairs have been placed here from where you have a fantastic view of the Scheldt. An excellent location for a picnic. If you walk further, you will pass the Pump House. In those days, the pump installations ensured that the dry dock was emptied so that the ships could be unloaded and loaded. In 2002, this beautiful building was transformed into a refined restaurant. The building has Art Nouveau features and beautiful round windows. Across the street, you can see the imposing Port House. This building combines a historic architectural style with a modern one. The lower building used to be a fire station and has been preserved and renovated. The upper part is a piece of modern architecture by the famous Zaha Hadid and represents the Antwerp diamond. If you walk back on the other side of the kattendijk dock you pass Bar Paniek (summer bar), located in an old warehouse. A unique place for a terrace. It looks like you end up in an old garage with a lot of junk, tables that don't belong together and a wild little garden, but that's what makes it so attractive.

Vintage hunting in the Kloosterstraat : This narrow and always pleasantly crowded street in the south of the city is a favorite route for flaneurs with a soft spot for antiques. Numerous minuscule stores filled with old furniture, collector’s items and retro gadgets make for long and slow afternoons in the sun. You can find anything you want here and everything you never knew you wanted.

Vlaeykensgang alley: Antwerp’s eminent medieval alley has to be the idyllic Vlaeykensgang. It’s a beloved spot to listen to the city’s carillons chime away during a concert and to dream about simpler times.

If you find the Meir too crowded for shopping, and you are looking for more special shops, the 'Wilde Zee' is definitely a must. These are actually a few side streets of the Meir, but not all tourists have discovered them yet. Here you can have a nice stroll without being trampled on. Some of the streets that are worth a visit are: Lombardenvest, Schrijnwerkersstraat, Korte Gasthuisstraat, Huidevetterstraat,...

Fortunately, not many tourists have discovered this beautiful square yet! It is located near the Antwerp Cathedral and as soon as you step onto the square, you imagine yourself back in the Baroque era. The stately St. Charles Borromeo's Church is a pearl from the Baroque era and was a former Jesuit church. In this church you will also be able to discover several works by Rubens. The Zurenborg neighbourhood is located between Antwerp Central Station and Berchem Station, making it a beautifully hidden gem. This whole district was built at the beginning of the twentieth century and therefore exists mainly in the special Belle Époque style. Art-nouveau elements are everywhere, especially in the houses at the Cogels-Osylei and around it. You can also find a lot of nice terraces in the district, on the Draakplaats and the Tramplaats, where you can enjoy yourself like a local. This neighbourhood has been on the rise the last few years and is laughingly called the 'hipster neighbourhood' by the locals. Definitely worth a stroll!

The city's most famous market is the centuries-old Vogeltjesmarkt (bird market). As the name suggests, this market used to be all about selling birds, but nowadays you can buy all sorts of things. Fan of culture? Then you can indulge yourself and visit the Bourla Theatre or the City Theatre. The Bourla Theatre was designed in 1827 by architect Pierre Bourla. With the special semicircular entrance, he left his mark on the unusual architecture. The Bourla Schouwburg has been the home of the Toneelhuis theatre company since 1998. The City Theatre has a tragic beginning: on 8 October 1944, a V1-bomb fell on the Bonte Mantelstraat in Antwerp, destroying it and some other streets almost completely. As a result, the city council decided in '69 to make way for Theaterplein, where the city council would build Antwerp's new municipal theatre. For in the Bourlaschouwburg a fire had broken out in the cellars, and three years earlier there had been a fire in a cinema in Sclessin. The cultural temples had to become safer and larger. The plans for the City Theatre were born.

In the 16th century, the beguinage was a place where elderly poor women lived together in small houses around a park. These beguines often dedicated themselves to a life of faith. Did you know that Antwerp Central Station is one of the most beautiful railway buildings in Europe? Because it is such a beautiful station, it has been given the name 'railway cathedral'. The station used to be a small terminus, which was then extensively renovated in 2007 to become a major railway station. Now it is no longer a stopping point and you can easily take a train to Amsterdam, for example. Certainly one of the most spectacular stations The station building is a mix of stone walls and a glass dome and contains platforms spread over different levels. So even if you don't take the train to Antwerp, it's definitely worth visiting the station. If you are in the Central Station, make sure you walk through the beautiful corridors and stroll on the grand staircase. The 'Middenstatie', as Antwerp locals call it, is built in an eclectic style.

Exotic markt / Saturday Market

Exotic market / Saturday market : Underneath the white beams floating above Antwerp Theaterplein square, an outdoor food market settles in every Saturday, and it is overflowing with colors and fragrances from fresh flowers, herbs and both warm and cold international snacks. It’s the kind of place where an Antwerp foodie likes to start his or her weekend. Handmade fish croquettes, Moroccan mint tea, French champagnes, and Greek olives are all staples of the market, though a lot of locals also use the place to stock up on ingredients for an expansive family meal later. Friday Market (only in the morning)

The biggest market classic in Antwerp, with roots reaching back to the 16th century, has its home in the historic core, next to the old Plantin-Moretus printing house. On this snug cobbled square called Vrijdagmarkt (“Friday Market”), each final day of the working week results in a series of small bidding wars. Dealers jovially prize their secondhand bikes, chairs, and bags full of miscellaneous trinkets at a loud volume so that even the people on the terraces get to enjoy the action. Every Friday

Shopping

As everyone knows, there are a lot of shops in the famous shopping street at the Meir, but these are mainly the well-known chain shops. So make sure you also explore the side streets and the small streets at the Meir, because they are bursting with nice shops. The city festival hall is also a must to visit, even if you don't necessarily want to shop. For the real fashion lovers, there is also the Fashion Quarter where, among other things, the Antwerp Fashion Museum is located. In addition, there are three famous streets where you can find the best boutiques. So make sure you mark them down on
