We have started to stop by their tasting room every Friday night after the Farmer's Market, (when there is one during the warm months), to socialize and listen to the local musicians.

Food Scene
If you want finer food, and finer wine and the local feel, this is a bit of a drive from Middletown, (I think about 30'), but, it is well worth it for lunch or dinner when you want a cozy, friendly place with good food and good wine. It's where we go if we want a more local feel than driving to the Calistoga Napa Valley restaurants, (which are equally good but definitely feel like Napa Valley as opposed to local Lake County).

This is one of my favorite wine tasting/vine yard tours. I take my dad here when he comes as one can park right by the cable car that takes you up to the tasting areas and gorgeous views of Napa Valley. There are a few stops on the tasting tour where you can also view part of the production process, and end the last taste sitting on the patio overlooking the valley.

It is so worth paying for the tasting and standing in the beautiful stone castle tasting wine and looking in each others eyes. We stopped first at Gary's (607 South St., Helena Highway, St. Helena, CA 94574- which is the old Dean and DeLuca further down Hwy. 29), to get cheese, date cake and chocolate to eat while tasting the wine. I am in love. While I find the castle and gardens romantic, we have 7 kids between us, and every single one of them would love to hike around the castle as well.

You can buy food at the deli here, or across the street. We enjoyed the wine tasting and smelled the grill going outside to serve the picnickers.

The art center kept Middletown going as we rebuilt after the fire. There is an changing exhibit, plus on the first Friday of the month and outdoor art and craft fair with food.

This is a very unique wine experience, where you can also see the old restored boats. If you want to go North, instead of South over the mountain, for wine tasting, I would try the truly special Boatique Winery.
