Food Scene

Mit Ko Yuan (ร้านมิตรโกหย่วน) is a classic Thai restaurant in Bangkok located on Thanon Dinso road, just down the street from Democracy Monument. After eating there, it’s a restaurant that definitely goes on my list of best places to eat in Bangkok. Most of the Thai dishes they serve are central Thai, with some real traditional and old-school dishes, and even Western Thai dishes available as well. One of the dishes I was most looking forward to trying at Mit Ko Yuan (ร้านมิตรโกหย่วน) was their tom yum goong (ต้มยำกุ้ง). The soup was rich and creamy, fragrant with lemongrass and herbs, and included perfectly cooked juicy prawns. Tom yum goong (ต้มยำกุ้ง) is one of my favorite Thai dishes,

Sightseeing

The Loha Prasat, which means iron castle or iron monastery, has 37 black metal spires symbolizing the 37 virtues that are required to reach enlightenment. The 36 meter high Metal Castle consists of 3 levels, the bottom one has 24 spires, the middle one 12 and the top level has 1 spire, totalling 37 spires. Only two other similar structures have existed in the world. It is said that during the life of the Buddha some 25 centuries ago, a huge Loha Prasat was built in India containing 1,000 rooms with a golden spire on top. Another one was built in Sri Lanka, the former Ceylon. Neither of these exists today.

Arts & Culture

The buildings along the Ratcha Damnoen Avenue are parts of Bangkok's architectural landscape and history. These blocks were built along with the construction of Ratcha Damnoen Avenue by order of King Rama V. Leading from the Dusit Royal Palace to the Grand Palace, the Ratcha Damnoen avenue was laid out in the similar design to Paris' Avenue des Champs-Elysees. The construction of the Ratcha Damnoen Avenue began in 1899, while that of the buildings along the Ratcha Damnone Klang Avenue [Klang means "middle"] began in 1937. On both sides of the avenue, 40-metre-wide strips of land were expropriated for the construction of these blocks of buildings that were designed by several architects,
