The city of Chichester has a lot to offer with the main North, South, East and West streets following the original Roman plan and radiating off from a central medieval market cross. These roads are busy with shops, cafes and restaurants. West Street runs alongside the 12th century Chichester Cathedral well worth a look inside for its architecture, history and art. A long driveway takes you over speed bumps to a free general car park, there is also parking closer to the harbour in front of the Boat House Café. The marina is one of the largest locked marinas in the country with over 1,000 berths. Plenty to see here and the harbour and adjoining countryside give a very enjoyable natural environment to explore.

Chichester Marina
Salterns WayFrom Chichester follow Stockbridge Road southwards towards Birdham, A286. It is not far and clearly signed on the righthand side. A long driveway takes you over speed bumps to a free general car park, there is also parking closer to the harbour in front of the Boat House Café. The marina is one of the largest locked marinas in the country with over 1,000 berths. Plenty to see here and the harbour and adjoining countryside give a very enjoyable natural environment to explore.
At the north east edge of Chichester Harbour the inlet at Dell Quay provides a lovely coastal walk and the Crown & Anchor pub with beautiful harbour views. You can walk northwards towards Fishbourne Creek, take the path alongside the sailing club and follow the harbour wall pathway. The view of the Downs and the surrounding area is superb. Numerous sea birds and waders can be seen making good use of the mudflats and reedbeds. If you follow the coastal path south from the pub you can head along the shingle or around the field edge if the tide is in. This way you will reach Chichester Marina and facilities at the Boat House Café.

But make sure you pre-book online as the car park fills up and there are a limited number of tickets. The East Head area is also accessible from the car park and with its peninsular jutting into the harbour, stunning views and sand dunes it’s an amazing location. This area is a Special Site of Scientific Interest for its rare habitat, salt marshes, nesting birds and wildflowers.

The East Head area is also accessible from the car park and with its peninsular jutting into the harbour, stunning views and sand dunes it’s an amazing location. This area is a Special Site of Scientific Interest for its rare habitat, salt marshes, nesting birds and wildflowers.

Arundel also has very interesting lanes (on the slope of a hill) independent shops, tea rooms, art galleries, bookshops and numerous antique and curiosity shops in which to browse.
