It's hard to list everything Massanutten has to offer: golfing, skiing, zip lining, rappel adventures, hiking, mountain biking, children's activities (such as bungee jumping on a trampoline), snowtubing, or in the summer, water tubing...the concierge and front desk can make reservations for those activities requiring tickets. There are day trips to D.C., horseback riding, water sports - some daring activities, some toned-down for kids, but fun, fun, fun!

Just one of many restaurants onsite, the Campfire Grill offers a variety of tasty menu items, often accompanied by live music. There are also numerous restaurants both just outside the resort (Korean, Mexican, American BBQ and diners, and more) as well as in the town of Harrisonburg, about 10 miles away. Most are moderately priced; some offer lunch buffets; some are more elegant for an evening out. Downtown Harrisonburg (just crossing over interstate 81 on highway 33, the road from the resort) is great for a visit, replete with museums, historic buildings and many cafes and restaurants. It even has a firefighter museum, a children's museum, and more.

The outside looks nondescript, but the dishes are delicious and the inside is quite elegant, suitable for a nice romantic evening of fine dining for couples. It's located on the square downtown, so there are a lot of nice places to stroll around and visit. The super-friendly hosts even brought food and water for my service dog. Their lunch menu is very reasonable in pricing for the quality and quantity of food. Located in downtown Harrisonburg, a short drive from the resort just past the I-81 overpass.

This is probably most appropriate for older children and teens, but not young children, due to the serious issues of slavery, death, and war. For Civil War and history buffs, this is a must-see. It's a bit of a drive - about an hour and 45 minutes from the Harrisonburg exit - but an easy drive. The movie at the visitor center is very moving when one considers how ordinary Americans fought on farmers' fields, and farmhouses were converted to hospitals for the injured.
