The theatre of Epidaurus represents the finest and best-preserved example of a classical Greek theatre. Even by today's standards, this monument stands out as a unique artistic achievement through its admirable integration into the landscape and above all the perfection of its proportions and incomparable acoustics. It was built in 330-20 BC and enlarged in the mid-2nd century AD. The overall 55 rows of seats rest on a natural slope and face the stage area set against a backdrop of lush landscape. The theatre is marvelled for its exceptional acoustics. Any sound on the open-air stage, whether a stentorian voice or a whisper, a deep breath or the sound of a match struck is perfectly audible to all spectators, even in the topmost row of seats, that is, nearly 60 m away. The answer to what makes the sound transmit so well comes from recent scientific studies: The arrangement of the stepped seating rows acts as an acoustic filter that deadens low-frequency background sounds, such as the murmurs of the audience, while amplifying the high-frequency sounds from the stage. Once again in use today, the ancient monument floods with theatre devotees during the annual summer Festival of Epidaurus. To avoid the sold-out disappointment, book early!

In the shallow waters of ‘Kalymnios' beach, a small part of the ancient city has submerged. One could see the remnants in the waters either by boat or swimming. In some places the ancient breakwater is still preserved. It is worth diving at a depth of only two meters to marvel the well-preserved ruins. It is a fact that the sight will leave you filled with awe.

The medieval castle covers only part of the area of the ancient acropolis but it was large and well built (for the standards of that period). The perimeter of its walls was 500m encircling an area of 13,400 sq.m. The remains of 3 towers have been spotted. The curtain wall was, in some parts, 2m thick. The building materials came from the ancient site. The main building inside the castle is a church (in ruins) dated between 7th and 10th centuries. A modern chapel (“Panagitsa”) has been built nearby.

Diavologefyro is a steep area with wild beauty located above the village of Troizina. It is a beautiful ravine with lush vegetation, full of oleanders, perennial trees and plane trees. In the background runs a small river, which descends from the mountains, creating in some places small lakes with icy crystal clear water between huge rocks. Small waterfalls roll on melted rocks. Crabs, butterflies and colorful insects spring up from everywhere.

The route to the crater is made by a path carved in lava and is a nice climbing experience. At first it moves to the base of the hill and then suddenly gains height and leads, after about 30 minutes, to the crater of the volcano. At the end of the path there is an impressive cave-like formation, often referred to as a "crater" without being. We continue and reach the heart of the crater. In Kalokoumbaro you will see the limestone covered by the lava of the Volcano. The scattered volumes of lava have the form of a giant rocky river that extends for 1500 meters to the sea forming the Black Cape, as the locals call the low hill below the cape.
