The Contemporary Jeweller
Studio 42’s 3-hour Jewellery Class is a creative adventure where students learn the skills to design and create a piece of silver jewellery from scratch. It’s a hands-on class full of learning, laughing and producing something exceptional to take away. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? To start, you will do a quick trial project to get comfortable with the tools and equipment, covering techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering and polishing. With your new skills, you will then have the freedom to design and develop a piece of silver jewellery of your choice. Depending on your designs, you may also incorporate disc cutting, roller printing, doming, texturing and blackening the metal; all skills that your instructor Jess will be there to advise you on. WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR? Every skill level is welcome to join this 3-hour class. From complete beginners to seasoned pros, everyone can make Studio 42 their own. If you do have previous jewellery making skills, you are more than welcome to work independently at your level. This 3-hour class is one of Queenstown’s “must-do” experiences and a great rainy-day option for solo travellers, couples or the whole family!
Wine Tour with the Wine Doctor
After complimentary accommodation pick-up, we will set off for the heart of Gibbston on a small group half-day tour to visit four cellar doors and journey into the ‘valley of the vines’ to discover these vineyards nestled amongst the spectacular mountain ranges and dramatic river gorges. In one of the wineries, we will savour a vineyard platter or a cheeseboard to pair with the wines. We will visit boutique wineries that are off the beaten path. There is no set routine, so every day is an adventure. The choice of the wineries visited will vary each day based on your individual group's dynamics. The overall focus is on high-quality wines as well as friendly and informative staff. As I am also passionate about photography, I will take photos of the whole experience and will send you all the photos by email after the tour, at no additional costs. I offer the tours in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Other things to note A minimum of 2 people is required to this activity to take place. If no others book for the day, we will get in touch with you and full refunds will be made or alternative dates offered.
Elegant cruise on Lake Te Anau
We'll start from the old government wharf on the shores of Lake Te Anau, at the end of the main street. After a very light hearted safety brief and introduction we'll start cruising toward the Hidden Lakes Wharf, about 40 minutes away in the South Fiord. On the way you'll be invited to have a drink of your choice (we have quite a number to choose from!!) while listening to the history of Faith as she sailed from Scotland to New Zealand. On arrival we'll disembark, and you'll take a guided walk into the first of the Hidden Lakes. This takes about 45 minutes with lots of little stops for us to tell you about the surrounding flora and fauna. This is an easy walk, and one you're not likely to see anyone else on - other than those in your group (maximum of 16). Upon return to Faith, you'll be served morning or afternoon tea, and will have time to sit and enjoy the peace of the National Park. Once you're ready, we'll leave the wharf and hoist the sails for the return journey - which you can help us with if you choose. While we'd like to sail all the way home, it's usual to run the engine to get us home on time. We'll arrive back to the wharf after approximately 3 hours. Other things to note It's important to consider changing weather during the 3 hours we're away. A jacket is important. Also consider preparing for motion sickness as the lake can get a little rough at times.
Old Coot Guiding Service Extraordinarie
As our title indicates we are a group of local oldies who would love to guide you around our district. During our warmer summer months our guided bike tours are very popular, but with the cooler months now upon us we offer other ideas and tour guides. In cars, helicopters and boats, all linked to a perfect itinerary for your time available. Something you are unlikely to be able to do yourself. We select a range of activities and places from our own ideas of places to see and do. Depending on your interests and we either accompany you or arrange for transport. You may want a game of exclusive golf, uncharted walk, climb a mountain, visit a winery, or explore the history with a walking tour or take a flight to a glacier. When in Queenstown you are in the mountains and the weather needs to be watched closely. Plan A, plan B may have to rescheduled to Plan C, D. That’s when we earn your respect as we quickly adapt to make your stay so memorable. An open fire, a glass of champagne, a spa maybe something you never dreamed of yet we can arrange this in a matter of minutes. The challenge for visitors is also experiencing their wish list in the time they have available. We solve these for our clients.

Night Sky Photography Tour
This fun tour operates from April to Sept and is for people of all skill levels who’d like to discover more about dark sky photography. Depending on the season, time and conditions there will be a variety of objects to shoot; moon, planets, stars, clusters, galaxies and satellites. There are meteors often and on rare occasions the Aurora Australis will flash in green and purple hues. We start with a short brief on conditions and equipment settings. We'll drive to up to three shooting locations in the Wanaka area. I'll brief you on the basics and we will use apps to see what is in the night sky and choose our subjects. You will learn how to focus on distant stars and how to take a test shot. Once you have your subject, framing and focus the shoot begins. Next we look at exposure times and sensitivity (ISO) settings and will take a variety of shots to see which combination of settings is optimal. You will be able to take a series of single shots and learn about how to take star trail images over long exposure times. You will shoot from a variety of aspects using the stunning Wanaka scenery as a backdrop. You will learn skills you can use when you return to your home skies. Any shots you have taken with my equipment will be sent via download link after the tour. Please note that the tour does require clear skies.

Māori Welcome Experience
See the Central Otago land first travelled by the Māori people and learn about the customs and traditions that still thrive with a whakataū/welcome. We'll visit an area where the first non-Māori people—European settlers guided by the elders of Tuturau—visited in 1853. You'll connect to Māori culture as you experience the Wero laid down by a Māori warrior and learn the traditional Hongi greeting—where you press your nose and forehead together with another person—and why it is done. I'll teach you the local Haka, a Māori dance specific to the region of Central Otago, and explain what each action means. The Whakataū will take place even in light rain as the Maori of the 1700’s did not have access to rain jackets and neither shall I. Experience the authenticity and originality as it should be. PS I can provide umbrellas. There are 2 different meeting points for this experience and you will be advised of the meeting point the day before your Māori Welcome date is scheduled. Both locations are relatively close together. Other things to note If you can't see suitable availability, send me a message and I'll see what I can do to host you.
Wineberry 'demi' - Half Day Wine Tour
This private & exclusive tour of four wineries is a relaxing afternoon trip, perfect for small groups of family & friends staying in the stunning Wanaka district. Here in Central Otago wine country you'll visit boutique vineyards in 3 sub regions and discover a wide range of wines including Pinot Noir, Rosé, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer. I will pick you up post lunch in the Wanaka area at 12.30 pm. We'll follow the Clutha River towards Lake Dunstan. We cross the Kawarau river and head into the Bannockburn region for our first tastings in a stunning landscape that combines the historic remnants of the gold mining era, beautiful vineyards and orchards. We will then go through the historic town of Cromwell which features vineyards and delightful flower gardens surrounded by olive trees and orchards. A winery in the shadow of the Pisa mountain range at the northern end of Lake Dunstan will be our next stop. Here you will taste distinctive wines in terrain that differs markedly from where we started our day. Our last tasting takes place on the outskirts of Wanaka in a beautiful setting with stunning mountain views. I am a photographer and will record the day for you free of charge.
